We know and love Tracee Ellis Ross as an American-actress, comedian, model, and many other roles she takes on. She’s probably best known for her role as Joan Clayton on Girlfriends and/or as Dr. Rainbow Johnson on Black-ish.
On top of all that talent, let’s add fashion influencer to the mix.
Tracee’s wardrobe puts her extraordinary taste and an undeniable sense of style on display in a creative and fashionable way.
I first “met” Tracee, growing up, watching Girlfriends like most of you. At the time though, I must admit, I wasn’t able to appreciate her character. I was drawn to and resonated more with Mya’s agenda and felt shoulder to shoulder with Lynn.
Yes, definitely rocked with Lynn.
Confused and uncertain of which path would lead to the most satisfying destination.
I felt that shit.
I was young.
Hell, I felt like I was Lynn.
Can’t lie! Joan made that career shit look fly as hell and rewarding AF, I was not trying to even consider a career path at that point in my life. I cringed at the thought of responsibility.
Tequila me, please. I’m trying to party!
I was inexperienced and naive to what life intended to gift to me over the years to come.
There I was taking mental notes and watched along with my older sister, trying my best to keep up.
Watching the show back then, I couldn’t help but imagine that one day I’d have to battle life myself. I would have to be packing some heavy artillery if I stood a fighting chance.
The same struggles I watched these women on TV, face and overcome, sometimes effortlessly, would one day be similar to mine.
As A Grown Ass Black Woman…
Back then, Joan appeared to be mature and well put together, well besides her rollercoaster of a love life. That, my friends, is a whole nother post.
As life would have it and unfortunately for me, I was dead on in my assumption. Relationships were headaches, I found way more peace in my career. Needless to say, her plight continued through me well after the show last aired.
Life’s funny that way, I just wish it was funny enough to pack her closet and send it over next day air.
I’ve always appreciated her sense of style and the older I get, the more I obsess over it.
With all that being said, Joan may not have been my cup of tea growing up, but as a grown ass black woman, Tracee is my bottomless Crown Apple.
Her style has always been described as daring, bold, unpredictable.
